BANDO STONES (2024)

Childish Gambino’s Bando Stone and the New World is a bold, genre-defying exploration of identity, rebellion, and freedom in a post-apocalyptic future. Blending music, film, and visual storytelling, it follows Bando Stone, a wanderer navigating a fractured world where technology and nature collide. With striking visuals and experimental soundscapes, Gambino crafts a narrative that’s both personal and universally resonant, pushing creative boundaries while reflecting on humanity and survival in a rapidly changing world.

I had the pleasure of collaborating with the talented team at Pretend VFX on this project, focusing on a shot where Bando is chased by a pack of angry giant cassowaries. The original 3D model, created by Amed Bueno, was provided by the VFX team. I re-topologized and rigged the character to streamline the animation process.

The project had a tight deadline, as we needed quick approval on the animatic to start animating the hair particle system and ensure the shot fit perfectly. I handled motion tracking, animation, and the final compositing. It was a ton of fun to work on!

Hopefully, the movie will come to life someday. In the meantime, we have a chill, beautiful album to enjoy. Childish Gambino, you genius!
