In Another End, acclaimed Italian filmmaker Piero Messina crafts a haunting and visually stunning meditation on grief, memory, and human connection. Another End explores the quiet tension between letting go and holding on. With its striking cinematography, sparse dialogue, and evocative score, Messina delivers an intimate and poetic portrait of resilience and the search for meaning in life’s most fragile moments. Here’s the trailer of the movie in case you’re curious:
I had the opportunity to work on a CG asset for one of the pivotal scenes in Another End, contributing a high-poly digital Walkman featured in an ultra-slow-motion sequence. The scene was emotionally charged and visually surreal, demanding meticulous attention to detail. I focused heavily on the animation and technical aspects, since I supervised the sequence as CG generalist in all aspects excluding beauty and comp.
I modelled, rigged the Walkman, headphones, and cable. Hard-surface modelling is always a fun challenge. Additionally, I simulated the physics of rigid-body glass shards, enhancing the dreamlike, out-of-time atmosphere of the moment.
It was a critical asset in the storytelling, and crafting its nuances to support the emotional weight of the scene was both testing and rewarding.
